If you think high school and college are rough, wait until you start out in online or network marketing. Lets see, how do I keep this post under a thesis and more like a post? I will see if I can keep it brief, and since my time to post is limited I will really do all I can to stay with that.
About 9 years ago I though it would be fun to start a website. I heard about html and codes and it sounded so interesting to me. It seemed like a great hobby to take up. I had no idea at that time that ordinary people could start websites and add pictures to them and just have fun.
Things were so simple then. I had no idea how to get people to look at my websites even back then, and I did want people to look at them. So I started visiting other sites and leaving my comments in their guest books and inviting them to take a look at my site and let me know what they thought.
I met more advanced coders and promoters, and got some great help back in the early days. Then I started seeing ads on sites and wondered how I could get some of those. I did not even know what an affiliate was, or that you actually could make money with ads on your sites. I wondered what company would want to advertise on my websites.
I still had no knowledge of what search engines really did. I am not even sure if Google was around then. I think it was dogpile or dogpatch or something. Yahoo was born though, but SEO was something that did not concern me.
Over the years I learned what is necessary to have success on the internet. Also as I learned there became more and more competition. Countries all over the world started using the internet more, and huge corporations. Google became the force that could make or break you and the god of Search Engines and who we all bow to.
Remember MSN? At one time it was necessary to cater to MSN. It is still a viable source for searches, but it seems that everyone speaks Googleeze (my orignal name for the language of Google). Googleeze might one day find itself in the dictionary and I hope I get credit for naming it. I define it as anything related to getting yourself a first page Google listing.
What does Googleeze involve? Research and Tests, of course. You have to stay on top of keyword research and testing your stats. Researching the competition and improving your results or your sites so you can ease them out of #1 page and work your way there.
Another thing to keep in mind is that not everyone plays by your rules or your budget. So there is a lot to consider. Are you the author of your own content or can you afford to out source it? Do you do your own research or can you afford to have someone else do it? Do you even manage your own websites and blogs or does someone else do that too?
The internet used to be the place for the little guy or gal to get a foothold on a way to make extra cash. All the gurus tell you that it is still possible. I believe it is, too. However if you go into it thinking that you can do it alone, or without some research and testing, you are not going to reach your goals.
Even if you have the money to outsource everything, you are still going to find yourself having to research, test, and repeat that process until you find what works.
The successful people on the internet love this. It is all part of the life they lead and they way they make extra money. I am part of this group. Although I still am not where I want to be, I am closer than I was 9 years ago. Oh, I do all this part time, too. I still have a full time job that I enjoy, and I take a little bit of time out for me in the summer.
If you enjoy researching and testing, and are not in a hurry to make money on the internet promoting a business of your own, or affiliate products and services, then you will become successful. It all takes time so enjoy the journey.
