USA Jobs-Skilled Workers

I was really surprised when I was listening to some reports on a local news radio on my way home from my parent’s house tonight. They were interviewing people from companies saying that they have jobs available and no one to fill the positions. They were not talking one or two jobs but thousands of jobs that go unfilled.

This slows down production. What sort of skills did they say were wanted? These were manufacturing jobs paying $18/hour and up. The skills necessary were math skills. Plus the skills necessary to want to work in a manufacturing environment. They did not go into great detail, but I am thinking, that they need workers who can stand for long periods of time, and do not mind repetitive work that requires being alert.

It is great to hear that there are still manufacturing jobs in the USA! I thought we were sending everything overseas. However it is disheartening to hear of the high numbers of jobs going unfilled because people are not being prepared to work in this industry. It really makes me wonder how people are missing the education necessary to get a job that starts out at $18 per hour.

I will have to see if I can find out more details about this.

Math is important. I feel that everyone has the ability to learn math. However not everyone is given what they need to learn math. With all the tutorials available on You Tube now, and on other sites around the internet, parents need to make sure they work with their children to get them to go over these tutorials.

Prentice Hall publishes tutorials for their text books online and they are really excellent. They have really improved their math tutorials. I hope people will find what they need to get off the unemployment lists. I hope that our parents will continue to play a strong role in the education of their children by helping them to find easy to access help for areas they struggle in.

Three Ways To Drive Traffic To Your Blog

Fact: Blogs Need Daily Traffic

Attention Readers:

When you show me the traffic then
it won’t be long before you can show me the money!
Do you believe it?

  • Without traffic who is looking at your blog or website?
  • Are happy just sharing among your inner circle?
  • Is it time to step out of the box here and look at why you are blogging?

Is your blog or website a business or is it just because you love to write?
Even if you just love to write and share information, wouldn’t it be nice to
have some extra dollars rolling in so maybe you could automatically pay for
your hosting fees?

If you are hobby blogging or have a hobby website maybe some extra money coming in would get you more toys or whatever you need to expand your hobby.

How do you get some extra traffic to your website?

That is the question men and woman have been seeking to answer daily.  It changes
over time.  That is one thing you can count on.

Getting traffic to your website or blog requires a variety of tools and techniques.

Some people excel at driving traffic to their websites and blogs. Others never quite catch the fact that getting traffic takes a combination of time, energy, and money.

  • Do you have to reinvent the wheel though?
  • Do you have to be an innovator to succeed in getting visitors to your blog or web pages?

There are people who are very successful and never worry about having
a top page listing at Google.  They have other ways to drive traffic.  I bet
you want to know what they are doing.

The Top Three Ways To Drive Traffic To Your Blog Or Website For 2010

1. Go Social: While this may sound easy, you have to make sure you find the right social sites to be active on.
There are so many sites out there, and we are drawn to the top ones such as Twitter and Facebook.
However did you think that it might be easier to make friends on a less populated site?
Friends who would actually want to get to know you?

This is part of relationship building that is so important in this era of Web 2.0 and now 3.0 and beyond.

  • Take time to look around at the social sites and before you spend all your time there, get to know it.
  • Is this the type of site where you can make a difference?  Do you like the people and the culture of the site?
  • What do they offer as far as ways to promote your business service?

2. Become A Valued Blog Commenter: Share your personality, knowledge, and enthusiasm with other blogs.

Become the visitor that you want to have visityour blog.    This is something I stress.  When you are the visitor, you are going to get visitors.  This, too, develops excellent relationships.

I have made good friends across the internet that started with blog
comments.

3.Promote Your Link: This last way can take
the most time and money depending on how you choose to do it.
While steps one and two require some time, the costs can be free to minimal depending on the social sites you join. If you are paying for a social site make
sure you are getting publicity for your websites and blogs from it.

Also search for people who will reciprocate some link exchanges with
you. The more popular their site is, the more good it will do you to
have your link there.

The following ways do work, but they require more knowledge and time
spent. You have probably heard of most of these ways and they are in depth
topics for other articles.  I will give a brief overview of three ways to promote.

  • Search Engine Advertising:  Yahoo, Google, MSN-Bing:
These do cost you per click and you need to set up a budget and be able to monitor your ads daily and change them as needed for your success.
Some people start this way and once they are getting traffic they can discontinue the ads.
This advertising is a great way to get specific demographic targeting
    to your site.
  • Text Ad Exchanges:
There are thousands of them out there.  I am finding more success at the smaller ones rather than the larger ones.  You can either spend time clicking on ads to get points for free advertising, or you can pay small fees to send out solo ads.  The solo ads do get response but remember sometimes you have to repeat this step several times to get noticed.
This form of marketing takes time and patience to be good at, but it can be highly rewarding.
  • Link Exchanges Or Ad Exchanges:
There are a variety of these on the internet, and they can get you traffic.
Once again you have to consder if you want to use the free way or the paid way.  Most of them involve either clicking on ads and viewing them for a certain length of time to get points,or exchanging links with other sites so you are constantly adding links to your blog to send visitors off to other blogs.

I have had good results using all of the above methods.  The method I use depends on my time and my cash flow.  I am always looking for the best ways and the most affordable ways to drive traffic to my blogs.  I hope this encourages you to get out there and start getting your blog or website some traffic.

How To Speed Up Your Reading

In this information overloaded world how many of us spend most of our day reading? I know as a full time teacher and part time internet marketer, I spend hours reading. There is so much great information out there on blogs and ebooks, and I want to know all I can about the latest trends online. However I am a slow reader so I run out of time to read all I want. I usually fall asleep reading and wake up hours later with the light still on in my room.

I subscribe to Daily Blog Tips and saw this video on there. There were some great comments here, and I know I can use help to speed up my reading.

Has anyone used the information in this video? Let me know if you do and your results with it. I would love to be able to read faster and then to remember what I read. This seems like a great way to do it.

Thanks Darren over at DBT. Click here to read the post and comments. Please add your comments to this blog, too, so we can share the information on your success.

Tiny URL Part 2

In Part 1 we talked about the main tinyurl.com and about Craig Haywood and his URL shortening and tracking services. Those are both good to use when you are an affiliate marketer and want to get people to your site before they go shopping on another site where you are not going to get the credit for the sale.

We are finding more URL shorteners out there now, and I am going to mention 2 more that are relevant for today’s affiliate marketer. Although there are more, and you might have one not mentioned that you enjoy using, that is great. Several people are familiar with the ones I am adding here, but maybe you are not, and this will be of interest to you then.

If you have a Twitter account then you are familiar with the URL, bit.ly. Twitter enjoys shortening URLs to the bit.ly format, and if you are not using it yourself, it is one you should consider signing up for.

bit.ly that is all you need to type into your browser to find it. If you want to add the http://bit.ly/ then you can do that, too. Here is what you will find once you get there.

You can create an account, and you can add your Twitter account or accounts to bit.ly Once you have the account and you look at the tweets you are getting and hover your mouse over the names you get the following results as I have with my example of TheSpotter on Twitter.

Bit.ly

This gives you an overview of who is contacting you on Twitter.

With Part 3 of this Tiny URL series I will be introducing Orange Leads and their URL shortening tool that is also free to use and has many great features along with a way to integrate it to your twitter account and to set up automatic postings.

Personality Traits and Success

I recently did some editing to an article I submitted to ezine articles a few years ago. Not much has changed since then but I thought I would add it to this blog.

First of all let me start out by saying that yes it can be done. Even the sole proprietor can succeed in a web based business. You can earn money by doing business online. However, now that I have said that let me expand on the title by explaining the “Five Personality Traits Necessary For Survival In Online Business”.

1. Perseverance:

Perseverance is listed first because before you begin your journey to online success you should examine your past performance in anything you have ever attempted.
Did you finish it? If you are one who is determined to never give up, no matter what, then you have one of the personality characteristics that it takes. Earning an income on the internet is not simply building a website, or a blog, and then sitting back waiting for the buyers to break down your door. It involves much more than that. Of course there are secrets, but you can learn them. It just takes time.
There are many internet business opportunities such as opening an online store, or joining an affiliate program, or selling books that you write. Some programs are set up to help you and you can buy a website business that requires very little to start it other than the initial investment. However many of these internet business opportunities will get you set up and then leave you to figure out how you are going to drive the traffic to your online business website. This is definitely the most difficult part. There is a lot to learn to be successful at driving enough traffic to your website then getting your visitors to turn into customers. Many people who are not persistent will give up before they give learn enough to be successful.

2. Teachable:

Maybe you do not think you need to be teachable to earn an income online, but you do. The internet is a funny place even beyond the joke sites. The internet does have a life of its own as the gurus (who do earn great incomes) will tell you once you pay for their courses. What do I mean by that statement that the internet has a life of its own?
The internet changes just like other areas of life. The internet started in
1969 by the US Department of Defense as a communication device. Then by the end of 1970 computer networks had become international. Now we see personal use of the internet and business use of the internet as a huge enterprise. Home pages have taken over as the ways to code and put up websites have become so easy that anyone can do it. Also an easier way to communicate and share information has appeared. Blogs have made it even easier for people to add information to pass along to family and friends with even less knowledge of coding and

building technical websites.
Who would have thought that the internet would be a place where teenagers would want to spend endless hours hanging out? Now guess what? It seems the adults are finding out that they want to spend more time on the same sites the teens hang out on. However adults find other uses for social sites like networking with other people in the same careers or with similar interests. This is known as social networking.
If you are going to be making the internet your place of business, you need to be aware of the trends. After all you are going to want to reach people to come to your place of business. Sometimes you have to go out and find them so that more can find you.

3. Creative:

Are you creative? I am not talking about how well you enjoy arts and crafts, but it certainly helps to have a creative spirit, soul, or just enjoy crafting. To make a living online you will be coming up with lots of ideas for products you want to sell, how you want to promote them, and how to meet your target audience. Maybe you even want to sell craft supplies! Awesome! Of course if you are not all that creative you can always hire someone to put your ideas into Web Page format, or you can start out with a blog.
However, you are the architect of your business ideas. You must come up with the ideas to get your business going. You must be able to decide how to get these ideas down on some visible form.
Creativity is the thread weaving around the other personality characteristics tying them all in together. If you are not feeling creative then maybe you are just too stressed out to free up your mind. Maybe you need some down time to get your mind flowing in some creative direction. Keep a notebook with you to jot down ideas, no matter how crazy they seem. Hey if you laugh at your own ideas, then that is great. Laughter is good medicine, and it burns calories and relieves stress. Laughter releases good stuff in your body, so don’t forget to laugh.
If an idea does not seem right for today, do not toss it completely out. It might be right in the future. That is why it is a good idea to carry some sort of notebook with you. Personal organizers are great, especially if they can connect to your computer. There are usually times during the week when you are waiting for something and a thought will pop into your mind. Jot it down. Some successful people carry pocket recorders for this purpose, too. Find something that works for you.

4. Patient:

Patience goes along with perseverance. However there are a few differences. You need to be patient in all circumstances and have what it takes so you never give up. You are definitely going to learn a whole lot. Do you have what it takes to be patient if you are not earning an income right away while you are learning? Sometimes you will spend a lot of time researching or doing other tedious things to make your web page successful. You might go down one avenue only to find it leads to a dead end of web research. Patience is a necessary requirement. If you are working a full time job and starting to branch off into your online based career part time, then you must have even more patience, because there never ever seems to be enough time to do all you want to do.

5. Ambitious:

Determination is the driving force that will keep you on task when common sense might be telling you to quit. There has to be a reason for you to want to pursue your dream of earning an income online. If you are not highly motivated it will just take you longer to reach your goals.
How do you stay motivated? Celebrate each success along the way to reaching your goals, or create mini goals along the way toward the one main goal of making a living online. If you find your ambition is not as strong as it was when you first started then perhaps you need to take some time to regroup.
Keep records and notes of your progress. Sometimes it helps when you look back and then you realize how far you have advanced. Even minor setbacks or having to start over should be considered progress. Everything is a step towards success because we learn each day from our results.

To summarize the five basic personality traits necessary to make a
living online include perseverance, being teachable, creative, patient, and ambitious. Of course there are more characteristics that successful online entrepreneurs have, but these five seem to be the most widely shared. If you are not sure if you are suited for a lifestyle of earning an income online, but you want to attempt it, then chances are that you do have these characteristics, but maybe they just are not developed yet. There are several books that have been published to help you develop what you need to survive and succeed online. Take that first step forward and you are on your way.

Every Business Involves Investment & Risk

Maybe this topic seems too general or like something everyone knows. However how often do too many people get taken in by an opportunity that seems too easy. It seems like there is nothing to do but go to the bank and make your deposits?
I really do not think you can blame this on the economy, but maybe more people look for extra income opportunities when times are not so good. I just think that people want to try something that leads to more financial independence no matter what the economy is like.

Now with the internet it seems that we are so trusting of a good sales page. We join opportunities without even talking to the people involved. Several of us would rather not even talk to a sales rep, but seem content to just run our business through emails, and online conferencing. Are you finding yourself doing this, too?

Sometimes we tend to throw our common sense out the window, and tend to believe that there is an easy way to financial freedom. Well there is not an easy way. You will trade time for money, or money for time. You have to get traffic to your offer one way or another. Your internet property now is your storefront. How are you going to get the people interested in your offer or in joining your team? The key to this is advertising.

There are several free ways to advertise online. However they all take a lot of time. Be prepared to invest some time or money, and most likely both into your new venture. Be patient with it. If you are in a hurry, you might get lucky, but more often than not, you are into an area where you are going to have to spend some time learning what to do.

It is my belief that the rewards of setting up your side business are worth the risks you take. Just set a budget and stay in it. Plan on spending at least 3-5 years before you can go independent and kiss that day job good bye. You will never know unless you give it an honest try.

Find Some Internet Buddies

For those of you who tried to find this blog when I was updating it, I hope you will come back to it. You think a simple upgrade to Word Press would not be that difficult. After all Word Press is the home of the 5minute blog install! I wonder how many people can have a 5 minute blog install?

I tried the 5 minute blog install and I guess I picked the wrong template because it took me about 3 hours and some emails to the template designer to find out what the error was in the coding. Well it was a lot easier to install a blog from bare minimum then it is to get this monster of a blog back functioning where I want it. I hope it looks good to you because it still is not right to me.

I seriously believe that there are 2 things I avoid in life lately. Blog upgrades is the one I can talk about now. The other one will come in a later post, but will be equally informative.

Ok, now the title of this post is “Find Some Internet Buddies”. I have not forgotten that. I have been so fortunate during my life on the internet because I usually find people who will help me. I think I have aged most of them, and they run away never to be seen after I pick their brain dry of all its knowledge. I promise all of them that I will not keep the knowledge all to myself but I will share it with the seekers of such information.

Where do you find such buddies? In the beginning I found them on forums. I found some posters who seemed to have a kind heart towards the newbies, and I visited the sites they talked about and I visited their sites and I would post meaningful questions or comments. After a while and several posts back and forth you just get to be friends with a few of these people.

It seems most of the people I have learned from are as obsessed as I am and they lurk at night, or later in the day (USA Pacific time speaking). I guess there are a lot of people working the night shift on their internet businesses, programs, or books.

Lately I have been reading the blogging communities that I used to have the links to on this blog. They will be back soon, hopefully. I am finding that there are some great helpful people in those communities, too. They have so much good information to share. I spend lots of time visiting their blogs, and now I seem to be following them to where they go.

Alex Sysoef got me started on this quest away from the forums and onto the Social Sites.  At first I felt like a square peg in these places.  However now I am meeting more people like Alex and finding that I am going to learn even more from visiting the new communities that they recommend.

As long as I am name dropping let me add Chris Lang to my latest internet friend.  He has so much to share and treats people with a lot of respect.  I followed him to a Social Marketing site and met some of my other “heroes” of blogging there.  I was so excited to see PotPieGirl show up.  LOL  When you find these people you will know what I am talking about.

It is my intention to meet even more greater people like I just mentioned who will help me to help you to learn how to maximize our time and success using the internet.

Great Tips Come In Emails!

I get lots and lots of emails, don’t you?  Some people send you nonsense and some send you gems!

I am on Jane Mark’s mailing list.  This lady knows how to market and I am going to be like her one day, only I am going to get you into easier programs and tell you easier ways to get some income.  I think once you reach a mailing list like she has that you might think it is easy to grow a business fast.  Do people forget what it is like to be a beginner on a limited advertising budget?  I hope not.

Her email was awesome though, and I am going to quote it here, but delete the links she included because I think I have easier to succeed in programs.  Not programs you join and do no work or advertising to see results…her recommendations are not like that either!  No work=no paycheck.  It is a fact of life.

Ok her email with revisions…

Hi Rocque
One of the biggest problems you may have
on the net is what I call the jumping bean
syndrome.
You get an email
It says join this program or that
You have no idea who the person is who
is recommending the program
You have no idea who the owners of the
program are.
You have no idea if the commisssions listed
actually get paid.
But you jump on it and join it because it
sounds ooooh so great.
Then  a couple of days later , you do the
same thing
Am I right?
I call this the jumping bean syndrome or
maybe ants in the pants would be a better
term:)
There are great programs out there
There are programs that are easy to make
money with if you stick to them and work
at it.
There are programs with responsible owners
who do what they say they are going to do
Phil and I do our very best to try to test
out programs on the net where we do know
the owners, where we do understand the
payplan and where we have actually been
paid the commissions earned.
We do this so you don’t get stuck.
That doesn’t mean you don’t have to do
any work.
Forget about being on the net and doing
nothing and expecting profits.
Ain’t gonna happen
But if you are willing to work, you can
make a super living on the net.

[Excellent Honest Advice up there]
Think about it.
[Ads were here but I can add them later]
But…You need to stick to the programs you
join.
You need to work at them and grow your
downlines over time.
So here is what I would like you to do
Join and stick to these three programs
listed below
[Links Removed , but I recommend some of my own on the sidebar]
I know what I am talking about here.
They are programs Phil and I have tested
some for years . [These are new programs they say they are so how did they test them for years?...The only weird thing in the email...sorry Jane and Phil]
They are programs that Will make your money
if you stick with them
They are programs where we know the owners
and they are hefty people who will not disppear
on you.
They are programs that you can put in the members
area of our advertising sites which will help
you make sales.
And tomorrow you will have one more outlet
for these programs.
Join them today.

[That above part is true they will promote their opportunities and let you have your links on them and that is very generous, but you still need to get traffic to those sites.  I think overall Jane and Phil are helpful.  I have joined all of their advertising sites and some of their programs.  I like "my" programs better since I know the owners of the ones I recommend, too.]
Get ready for tomorrow
And for goodness sake, Stick with them
There may be some hard times coming up
with a recession looming.
Your job is start making bucks at home so
that you can steel yourself for the future.

[Excellent Advice in this entire email...that is why I posted it here!!!]
